The Biennial Foundation, has been over a century, one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world. Ever since, its foundation in 1895, it has had the objective of promoting new artistic trends and organizing international events in contemporary arts, which has been reflected up to now.
ILLUMInazioni or ILLUMInations was the title for this years´Biennial theme, where Curiger explored contemporary art from her own perspective turning it into a well-organized exhibition. She aimed to connect Pre-Modern and Contemporary Art, therefore she included in the Central Pavilion (Giardini) three art pieces by master Tintoretto, Venetian artist known as ¨The Painter of Light¨ during the Renaissance. As well as contemporary and young artists such as Cindy Sherman, Seth Price, Sigmar Polke, Christopher Wool, Maurizio Cattelan, Pippilotti Rist, etc.
