MAXXI-Museum of Contemporary Art Rome

MAXXI-MUSEO NAZIONALE DELLE ARTI DEL XXI SECOLO
Via Guido Reno-Rome

Continuing my journey, the next adventure is Rome!
The Maxxi museum in the Flaminio neighborhood at the heart of Rome, has a contemporary view of architecture and art juxtaposed in the same place. Its amazing organic architecture was designed by Zaha Hadid the renowned Iraqi-British architect of our modern times. It is quiet interesting how classical architecture blends with contemporary, making it a place for entertainment and art appreciation. This project leaded by Hadid´s architectural design firm took 10 years for it to be completed due to its complexity and political issues.

The building´s longitudinal design, creates an optical illusion that simulates movement, as huge waves emerging from within towards the shore. Its infrastructure was built with materials such as concrete, glass and steel giving an elegant and minimal appereance to be contrasted with the vivid artworks from the temporary and permanent collections.

This can be seen at the imposing entrance that leads to the reception, bookstore, cafeteria, galleries and auditorium, giving a perfect ambiance for the interaction between artistic communities. This communities of art lovers, can appreciate the internal architectural view, while enjoying the amazing Italian style coffee with dessert in the futurist-organic cafe.

MAXXI is a museum of contemporary-applied arts such as architecture, photography, art, design, media and painting, with the objective of promoting the current creative Italian-expression through a space for cultural innovation and a laboratory for artistic experimentation. Art and architecture are essential components for means of communication through image and perception, which the museum emphasizes to transmit ideas and concepts throughout the world, as well as receive the flux of information from international cultures.

The MAXXI dimensions:
total surface area: 29 000mq
exterior space: 19 640mq

ILLUMInazioni or ILLUMInations was the title for this years´Biennial theme, where Curiger explored contemporary art from her own perspective turning it into a well-organized exhibition. She aimed to connect Pre-Modern and Contemporary Art, therefore she included in the Central Pavilion (Giardini) three art pieces by master Tintoretto, Venetian artist known as ¨The Painter of Light¨ during the Renaissance.      Una bella passeggiata a Amsterdam con la mia bicicleta!!!

While enjoying a wonderful ride on my bike, I stopped at SOEPBOER&STOOKER, an amazing and trendy fashion shop located at the Overtoom Street in Amsterdam.  Luckily, I had the chance to meet one of the head designers of the studio, named Berber Soepboer.

She is a Dutch fashion designer, working in conjunction with designer Anne Stooker, as their small shop is called. This small and cozy multi-brand boutique offers to design lovers, their own brand-label as well as, other contemporary fashion designers from oversees, such as LIKE THIS and BLESS

Berber studied Fashion Design at the prestigious GERRIT RIETVELD ACADEMIE in Amsterdam, where she developed her unique taste and Dutch style. Her remarkable and expressive style, can be seen at the Soepboer&Stooker boutique where they launch two collections per year.

One of the designs that caught my attention from within, is the COLOUR-IN-DRESS! This is a new conceptual design project, developed between Soepboer with the collaboration of graphic designer Michiel Schuurman, for an exhibition of a famous Dutch textile company, DE PLOEG.  The inspiration for this project had to go in line with De Ploeg`s textile designs, graphic prints and ideology, therefore an amazing black and white print, was created in order to be contrasted with colours.

The objective of the Colour-in-dress is to offer a new sense of style for women who like to experience different emotions while personalizing and creating their own colourful design. With the use of multicoloured markers such as blue, red, lime green, lilac, each person gives life to their wardrobe and imagination!

 COLOUR-IN-DRESS

A doted printed cardboard box is the packing for the COLOUR IN DRESS. On the inside, it has a set of markers and the plain dress.  If you are a design lover you may order it for 300 euros.

Invitation to the 2 year celebration at the Soepboer&Stooker boutique!
